The Building Department enforces all of the provisions of the Connecticut Basic Building Code, which was adopted by the Town of East Windsor in 1968. The Department acts on any questions relative to the mode or manner of construction and the materials to be used in the erection, addition, alteration, repair, removal, or demolition of same; the installation of service equipment and the location, use, occupancy and maintenance of all buildings and structures, except as otherwise specifically provided for by statutory requirement.
There are two full-time employees in the Department, a Building Official, an Assistant to the Building Official and a part-time Administrative Assistant. We assist the public with building codes, the permitting process (both building and mechanical), inspections, issuance of Certificate of Occupancy, housing questions and concerns, violations, etc. We also give assistance to attorneys, appraisers, architects, contractors, real estate agents, current and prospective homeowners and businessmen, etc., with information about buildings, structures, and properties located in Town.
Starting on July 1, 1999, all Building Departments in the State of Connecticut have been mandated to collect a State Educational Fee per thousand dollars of estimated cost of a permit. Every quarter a report is compiled and the monies collected are sent to the State of Connecticut. The Town may retain two percent of these fees for maintenance costs.
