A man who East Windsor police say engaged them in a pursuit while trying to flee the state in a stolen car in February was arraigned in Enfield Superior Court on Wednesday.
The man, Casey Sullivan, 19, of Ellington faces charges of first-degree larceny, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, engaging police in a pursuit, operating under suspension, reckless driving, and misuse of license plates, police said.
He was ordered held in lieu of $25,000 bond by Judge Howard Scheinblum. Sullivan is scheduled to return to court on May 25.
According to the arrest affidavit, an officer spotted Sullivan driving a stolen Jeep in East Windsor on Feb. 6 about 1 a.m.
The car had Massachusetts plates, but the officers matched it to a car that Sullivan was suspected of stealing in Ellington, the affidavit says.
When police approached the car, Sullivan drove off, continuing for several streets until the Jeep when off a 30- to 40-foot embankment on the Charbonnaeu's Pit property, the affidavit says.
Officers eventually found the car on the property but Sullivan had fled, the affidavit says.
They found personal items, pictures, a knife, and marijuana in the car, along with an Internet printout map showing directions from Ellington to Orlando, Fla., the affidavit says.
On Feb. 7, police learned a different car belonging to Sullivan's mother had been stolen from the woman's Ellington home, the affidavit says.
Police determined the license plates on the Jeep were stolen from Chicopee, the affidavit says.
Police said today that Sullivan was arrested in Florida and brought back to Connecticut by state police for his arraignment Wednesday.
