An East Windsor convenience store owner was shot Wednesday night during the second of three robberies in the area and is in critical condition today, officials said.
The robbery, which was reported at 9:30 p.m., resulted in life-threatening injuries to Javid Achtar, 32, owner of the One Stop Convenience on Depot Street in the Broad Brook section, according to police Detective Matthew J. Carl.

Achtar was shot once in the head, Carl said. He received CPR from the East Windsor ambulance medics and was revived on the way to the hospital, the detective said.

Achtar was listing in critical condition at Hartford Hospital this morning, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Carl said police are searching for two or three black men driving a red Ford Mustang and a black sports utility vehicle.

State police are assisting East Windsor police with the investigation, state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said.

The other robberies Wednesday night don't appear to be connected to the robbery at the One Stop convenience store.

The first of the three robberies happened at a Mobil station on Route 140 in East Windsor at about 8 p.m. where a robber showed a knife and asked for money.

Police believe the same white man who has robbed 10 other convenience stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts committed the first and third robbery.

The third robbery was reported at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday in Enfield. A young man armed with a large knife robbed Sam's Food Mart at 250 Brainard Road at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said today.

Sferrazza said the robber was dressed in a black jacket and pants and wore a black ski mask.

He said the clerk spotted a second man standing at the store's entrance acting as a lookout.

The clerk described the robber as white, about 5 foot 5, and 16 or 17 years old, Sferrazza said. He said the clerk described the lookout as stocky, about 5 feet tall, and 13 or 14 years old.

Anyone with information regarding the East Windsor robberies is asked to contact the East Windsor police detective division at 292-2840.

Anyone with information regarding the Enfield robbery can contact Enfield police at 763-6400.
