EAST WINDSOR - A fire late Thursday at the apartment of a man charged with fatally stabbing an Enfield teen was likely an attempt to retaliate for the murder, police said.
A fire was set at 127 South Main St. where Paul E. Berube, 20, had been renting a first-floor apartment before he was charged in the death of Christopher Jensen, 18, during a fight Saturday on a section of the Metacomet Trail in East Granby, police said.
Berube was arraigned Tuesday at Enfield Superior Court on murder and other charges. He is being held on $2 million bond at the Hartford Correctional Center and is to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Oct. 16.
Berube's landlord, who was at home when the fire started shortly before midnight, was not injured, but the front porch, windows, and door of the house were damaged, Detective Matthew Carl said.
No arrests have been made in the case, but Carl said he believes the arson is linked to Jensen's murder.
Jensen, of 42 Kings Court, Enfield, died Saturday after he was stabbed in the chest during the fight in East Granby, police said.
State police have said they are searching for other suspects in Jensen's death.
