Curb-to-Curb Service

Description

The program is a curb-to-curb service; clients must be capable of getting themselves out to and onto the vehicle unassisted. Clients who are not physically able or not capable of self-care must bring a companion or care person for assistance. Our drivers provide assistance for wheelchair clients on and off the vehicle and secure wheelchairs into position on the vehicle only. Drivers are not permitted to enter homes or buildings.

Destinations

This service provides transportation to:

  • Banking
  • Medical Appointments
  • Senior Center
  • Shopping

Reservations

All appointments must be scheduled with the Transportation Coordinator only. The Transportation Program is a pre-scheduled service. Reservations need to be made at least 7 days in advance.

In an effort to operate within our budget guidelines, we ask that no out of town appointments are scheduled after 1:00 pm and no local appointments after 12:30 pm. As a municipal agency, we observe all state and federal holidays.

Medical Appointments

Medical appointments are allotted one hour; if you need more than one hour please make arrangements with the Transportation Coordinator when you schedule your appointment. If additional time is not scheduled in advance it may be necessary for you to seek alternate transportation home, or you may have to leave without finishing your appointment.

When making medical appointments, it is necessary for you to provide the coordinator with the following information:

  1. Day
  2. Date
  3. Time
  4. Physician’s name
  5. Physician’s address
  6. Physician’s telephone number
  7. Approximate length of time for your appointment
  8. If a companion or care person will be accompanying you
  9. If the wheelchair lift will be needed

In the event of day surgery, you must bring a companion in with you, or you will need to seek alternate transportation home. We are unable to transport clients once they have been administered medication if they do not have a care person or companion with them.

Unscheduled Stops

Please do not ask the driver to make unscheduled stops; all appointments need to be made through the Transportation Coordinator. Please be ready when the vehicle arrives, other passengers have scheduled appointments as well.

Pick-up Time Confirmation

If you are unsure of your scheduled pick-up time, please call the Coordinator after 12:00 noon on the day prior to your scheduled appointment to confirm.

Cancellations

Cancellations may be called into our voicemail 24-hours a day, 7 days a week at (860) 292-8261.

In the event of a cancellation with less than two hours notice, the trip will be recorded as a "no-show". If there are three "no-shows" in a one month period we will suspend the Transportation Service for a one month period. All additional "no-shows" will result in a three-month suspension of service.

With regard to circumstances beyond our control, i.e. drivers calling out sick, van breakdowns, or unexpected delays, it may be necessary for us to cancel your scheduled trip.

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, we follow the same schedule as the East Windsor School System. Please listen to WTIC Radio Station 1080 or Channel 3 for school closings. When the school system has a delayed opening due to inclement weather, the Transportation Program will also have a delayed start time. When the East Windsor schools close early due to unfavorable road conditions, it may be necessary to shorten our service day. Clients who are at their destinations should finish their business as quickly as possible so that everyone may be brought home safely.
