Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Agency

The public's awareness of environmental laws has increased substantially since the enactment of the Inland Wetland and Watercourses Act in 1972. Wetlands provide major environmental and economic benefits to every community. They are critical to a potable water supply, eliminating pollution, preventing storm and flood damage, wildlife habitat, and passive recreation. People planning any work in and around wetlands and/or watercourses should contact the Planning and Development Department.
